"A Purplexing Bingo Hall reunion?" or "The Whole FN' Tones?"
News about Rob Van Dam "teaming up" with Harry Slash & The Slashtones.
Former WWE wrestler and fellow (original) ECW alumni Rob Van Dam is starring in his own Internet based reality show called "RVDTV" and it's theme song is called "Purplexion" written and performed by "Harry Slash & The Slashtones". When Rob asked me my opinion of what he should use as his opening theme music I offered him the song that we'd recorded a while back but never used. Rob Van Dam and his producers liked "Purplexion" and are currently using the song in the trailer for "RVDTV" that you can view at www.robvandam.com.
"Purplexion" was the last song ever recorded by this band during it's "Harry Slash & The Slashtones" ECW era incarnation from 1997 to 2001. The original version of this song was written around November of 2000 to possibly be used as the new ECW Theme had the company secured another television network deal after the TNN fiasco. It was finally recorded around February of 2001 while ECW was in limbo, just in case Paul Heyman pulled a miracle out of his back pocket. Well as we all know there was no miracle and ECW folded later that year. Needing to take a break, I shelved "Purplexion" along with the other unused songs we recorded during the original ECW era and put this band into a temporary musical limbo.
"Purplexion" features Steve "Budgie" Werner on drums, myself (Harry Slash) on keyboards and our former guitarist Rod Kohn. While I had originally written the song on bass guitar, I don't remember if it was I or Rod that had played the bass on this recording. Either way, it's a cool tune and you can listen to it at www.myspace.com/theslashtones .
Oh yea, we have a myspace page now. We've had it for a while and just never mentioned it. Check out the tune and request us as a friend if you're also on myspace. If we get enough requests, maybe I'll throw on some other lost Bingo Hall era tunes.
