"Fan mail from some flounders." - Bullwinkle
We got a nice healthy dose of emails following last weeks show, enough to fill up my hotmail account. We seem to have reached a whole new audience as the majority of mail was from people too young to have seen The Slashtones during it's heyday in the mid 90s. A majority of the new fans either "really liked the band" or asked if we'd be playing again or releasing a CD of the comedy stuff we did. The answer to both of those questions is "Yes". ("Finish the damn record already." - Steven Van Zandt 05/19/04)
Some of our old time fans that were there emailed asking if any other old band members would be in the band again. The answer to that one is "No and Yes". Various versions of this band in the past have included as many as 12 people in the band at once, but the current minimalist lineup of five is how it will stay. However, I do have every intention of having some of the former band members join us every now and then for a few tunes once we get a few more shows under our belt as a five piece band.
Two other things stick out above the others I will print as sent, omitting the senders' names and expletives.
"... I saw you guys at CBGB a few years ago after ECW was at the Hammerstien. You guys kicked ass back then but last night was f---ing amazing! That s--t was so much f---ing better than the s--t you did for ECW. Why didn't you play that f---ing s--t at all the ECW shows? It would have been so much better than that bogus f---ing crap Dope did where they played while their f---ing CD was running. ---- ------ sure wasted you man. Worse than what --- is doing to --- --- ---. Hope you guys play again soon. ..." - name withheld
I omitted the names you mentioned, but agree with some of what you said to a certain extent. At the time of ECW, I had grown tired of doing the comedy act and wanted to try something different and it was ECW that gave me the chance to do so. We did do two unadvertised unplugged shows in 1997 and 1998, but they didn't go so well... (See History)
At one point, we had talked about my doing the comedy set as a pre-preshow at one of the PPVs. But the results of the last time that version of that band played together on January 11th of 1998 made me decline any offers of performing with any band again for three years. We did do some cool stuff in the studio though. (See Music)
Ok, I'm done pimping the website. The next comment is one we consider pure poetry and may use as our band's motto:
"I loved your band. You guys are like a funny Led Zeppelin but with a saxophone and not as good." - name withheld
Well, that just speaks for itself now, doesn't it.
Until next time, I'm off to see the Wizard.
