"After all this sweating blood together, who'll be my fighting partner when you go?" - Johnny Cash

In Memory Of Doc

Carlisle Lynn Phillips
September 1964 - February 2nd, 2004

In loving memory of one of my best friends and the most courageous person I have ever known.
"Doc", Carlisle Lynn Phillips was a man whose heart was filled with peace and love, even though the world around him was filled with anger and hate.

In his early years Doc was a paramedic in the US Army and saved many lives in Beirut and Lebanon. He was a paramedic and a martial arts expert. He could tear you apart, and then put you back together. Doc worked with me at The Black Cat, Space at Chase and every other club I promoted in NY. He also worked at The Scrap Bar and The Ritz and other clubs as well, and was one of the best club bouncers in NY. He was my drinking buddy and my fighting partner. We drank, we smoked, and we kicked a lot of ass. But most of all, Doc was one of my best friends.

Carlisle Lynn Phillips was also a writer and a poet. He moved to Holland in 1994 and had a book of his poems and stories published under the title of "Medicated Insanity".

One of the last things he wrote was not a poem, but what he called 'The best things'.
"The best things are the ones around me who love me for who I am. Isabelle and Beau-Shannon and Davy and last but not least , Tamicka.
2) Listening to music
3) Listening to music being stoned
4) Seeing life for all the beauty in it. The ugliness and the anger will never stand up to the light.
5) I have faith in the future and destiny. And since i believe that I am basically good, It will always be okay in the end. And i would have learned life's lesson well."

Carlisle Lynn Phillips is survived by his wife Isabelle and their children, Tamicka, Beau-Shannon and Davy.

Rest In Peace Doc.
I'll see you on the other side,
H /

Fire by
Carlisle Lynn Phillips - 1996

Take the fire
The fire that gives me a feeling
A feeling of being
That you can't give
A feeling of power
That's all inside my head
A feeling of wonder
No Pain involved
A feeling like a god
All Powerful
I can destroy you with a single word
I walk the line
With no fear
Death has come before
Now it comes no more for me

His Favorite song.

"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
